Comparing Music Magazine Covers

There are some obvious similarities between The Source and TOTP magazine in the sense that they both follow similar genre and media language conventions. Both covers show a variety of artists, however, while The Source magazine uses a medium close up of Dr Dre, TOTP magazine uses a variety of different musicians, including Lady Gaga and Jessie J.

MOJO Exam Case Study

MOJO has use media language differently to represent and attract the target audience by using a masculine colour pallet of red, gold, black and white. This use of colour connotes a serious tone, and is suited to the rock genre that the magazine is from. The serious tone also attracts the target audience of people very serious about music. The colours gold and red might represent and attract the richer members of the audience, as the connotations for these colours are that of wealth and the upper class. The main image is of the band Fleetwood Mac in black and white as they are today whilst their reflection is of them in their earlier days. The use of the reflection of the band from when they where younger in the main image could be used to attract the older generation, many of whom were listening to the band back then, and would feel nostalgic to see them as they were when they listened to them.
