The Lego Movie & video game Posters Campaign

Denotation: The literal or primary meaning of a word
Connotation: The idea or feeling a word invokes in someone in addition to their literal meaning

The lego Movie video game poster has the main character, Emmet, at the front with the title above him. Behind him is the secondary character, Wild Style, and the "oracle" Vitruvius.
In the background is the antagonist, Lord Business, and his army.

The way the main character is at the front, smiling and lit up shows that he is the hero, in contrast to the way Lord Business is in the background, with an angry face and emitting a red glow which clearly shows him as a villain.

The colour palette of this shows a lot of reds, yellows and whites, which is most often used in action films. On top of the building where batman is has a lot of blacks and blues and grays, which is most often used in crime and thriller.

This poster is aimed at young children because of its simplicity. It has a lot of things going on in it which would catch the eye of a child. It also is very easy to distinguish between the hero and the villains.

The title of the poster is red and white, which is linked to the action genre. The title's typography is in 3D, which makes it look like a lego block.

  • Film posters are released at different times and contain different information - just like the trailers.
  • Teaser posters come out first, they don't have a lot of information.
  • Theatrical poster come out later and have much more information and everything is sorted out.

This is the Endgame Teaser Poster:

Teaser posters are released early and often have one striking image, the title, a tag line, and a vague idea of when its coming out. The colour palette in this poster is dark and dull, which links to the thriller genre.

This is the Endgame Theatrical Poster:

Theatrical posters are released closer to when the film is released, they have a set release date, all the characters, the film title and the credits. the colour palette is a lot of blue and red, which links to both Sci-Fi and action. they lave the logos and a better picture.
