Women in the workplace was a relatively new concept, they had only been working for about 20 years, since the wars had forced women to work in the place of men and they wanted to continue. This article shows that women were tired of dealing with the pay gap, and were willing to do something about it.
The 60's was a time about protesting about peace. You had extreme protests to try and stop the war, you had hippie protesting against nuclear arms. The language used in the newspaper, such as 'hope' shows that the newspaper is liberal and its values align with those of the protestors.

The way that the photographer used a low angle respectful shot of the couple connotes that the newspaper is forward-thinking and agrees with liberal vies. It is going against the status quo in Britain by agreeing with mixed race marriage, however, the fact that this is international news shows how society is not used to this and that Britain is not very forward thinking.
